[In Mesopotamia]

Had a drink of tea about 5am. Move off 12noon (10miles) arrive about 4pm. Had a drink

of tea at night. No Rations

 

Extract from war diary of 1st Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

Billets at Essars

Inspection by Corps Commander commencing at 11-15A.M., at LE TOURET.  578 on parade and Transport.  The following report was received:

“The Battalion was well turned out; steady on parade and the men had

a well cared for appearance.  The men had evidently taken great pains to clean

their buttons and turn out smartly”
