Extract from war diary of 9th Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

Couin

Divine Services were arranged but orders were received to move to STATION RD between BEAUMONT HAMEL and the ANCRE for attachment to the 187th Infantry Brigade for tactical purposes.  The battn arrived at STATION RD at about 5 p.m., and found that no billets had been arranged & it was necessary to search for old dug-outs to accommodate the bn for the night, the bn was eventually temporarily billeted in old German dug outs, on the roadside and in old trenches, this would be about 8.30 p.m
