8 March 1917

Extract from the diary of Maj P K Glazebrook, Cheshire Yeomanry, Egypt Expeditionary Force

A battalion ceremonial parade, with Herbert acting a inspecting general. Anyone with any sense of humour suffered considerably in attempting to remain strictly at attention, as he constantly walked away a few yards & formally approached the battalion time after time. We made our afternoon parade as easy as possibly, & Tuppence & I went to Cairo for dinner at the continental, having some misfortunes in our journey back, as we tried two arabiyahs, of which the horses failed, & then we walked & got lost more or less.
