Extract from the diary of Maj P K Glazebrook, Cheshire Yeomanry, Egypt Expeditionary Force

Went to the range early & got back at about 2.30 PM. I went to Cairo for a birthday dinner of Tom’s, postponed from Alamein. After an excellent dinner at Shepherd’s we went on to a low music-hall called the Casino. Tom & I were soon left alone there, & the rest went to a low resort called Madame Tino’s. As Tuppence is very young I went on with Tom & got him to come home with me.
