Extract from war diary of LCpl Alexander Saunders, 8th Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment [In Mesopotamia]

Sat down and had breakfast about 7 am. Then advanced on the enemy (Ches. and R.W.F.) Lined a ridge, dug in and remained all day under shelling, machine gun and rifle fire (very heavy). Moved 150 yards and dug trenches for RES.COY.
