Extract from war diary of 11th Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

Westhoek Ridge

On the night 11th/12th., the Battalion again moved up to the WESTHOEK Ridge, relieving the 9th Loyal North Lancashire Regt., who had advanced the line some 500 yards from the position held by the Battalion on the 5th. inst. The enemy shell fire during this tour was again very heavy.

Trenches

Training during morning. Relief of the 8th Loyal North Lancs. in the trenches commenced at 8 p.m. A few odd details of signallers etc. went up before, one unfortunately got caught by salvo of 5.9s between the LE BIZET church and MOTOR CAR CORNER, 2 killed and 4 wounded out of 8.

Relief was completed by 11.30 pm. Sector taken over extended from S. of PLOEGSTEERTE WOOD to RIVER LYS. Coys from N to S – A. B. C. D. Battalion headquarters at SURREY FME. near LE TOQUET station. Quiet night
