Advance parties from 9th R.W. Fusiliers came up to look over the positions prior to relief.  At 9. p.m. a patrol went out and returned at 10.30 pm without encountering any opposition (App J 80).

Preparations for the Offensive were completed.  Parties were detailed for special and ex-regimental employ, and “A” Coy of the R.W.F with 2 Officers was attached to this Battn for the operations.  1 Platoon was attached to each coy, and considered from thence onwards as part of the Coy.  Advance party proceeded to take over accommodation for the Battn in the line, as the Brigade was relieving the 111th Infantry Brigade.  All surplus Personnel were sent to the Depot (SIEGE FARM) by 1 pm and all Battle stores issue to men. At 3.30 pm the Battn started to move to YORK ROAD where it was to embus, [sic] the men were all ready in their fighting order and carrying all stores etc necessary for the attack.  The Busses started at 4 pm and the Battn debussed at (ST ELOI), and moved into the dug-outs they were taking over.  This move was completed by 7 pm without casualty.
