Extract from war diary of 2nd Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

Still in line.  BUTKOVA reconnoitred, no sign of enemy. Busy improving existing trenches and making new ones.  Wire defences nearly completed.  Artillery registration also Lewis and Vickers Guns and Rifle Grenades complete.

Every precaution taken to prevent mosquito bite, with good result.  Mosquito Bivouac Sheets issued 1 between 2 men during month.  Face veils and gloves also issued for use of patrols going down towards villages on lower slope of hills.  Very few new cases of Malarial Fever.

Monday I am still on the ship Llandovery Castle they say we will be here a week before we sail we are the first lot on 163. The Doctor tested me this morning & said I had nothing to be afraid of we have a good view of Salonica of the boat we had the clothes fumigated to day it is a nice day we are well out in the harbour
