Extract from war diary of 9th Bn, 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment

The battn. paraded for Divine Service in the morning.  50 men were supplied to the Brigade for carrying.  A concentrated bombardment, followed by a practice barrage on the ridge was carried out, and was witnessed by Officers and N.C.O’s from KEMMEL HILL.  A second barrage was carried out in the afternoon.  A third demonstration was made at night.  The Brigade commenced to hold the front line as a series of outposts in NO MANS LAND, in order to keep hostile patrols from using NO MANS LAND.
